The devastating impacts of fossil fuels and climate change are not shared equally around the country or around the world. Both nationally and globally, the communities most impacted by pollution from fossil fuel extraction and production, as well as most harmed by a changing climate and extreme weather events, benefited the least from the development which fossil fuels enabled. And historically, these disproportionately impacted communities  - which are predominantly low income and communities of color - have been shut out from decision making processes affecting their communities, leading to the rally cry “Nothing About Us, Without Us!” Any real solution to climate change must have a strong commitment to environmental and racial justice at its core, centering the most impacted communities, respecting indigenous rights, and ensuring that no one is excluded or left behind in the transition to a clean, renewable energy economy.
